The Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre will be built at The Mill precinct in Petrie, on the site of the former paper mill. The venue is being designed as a large-scale indoor arena capable of hosting major sporting events, including potential Olympic competitions.
The project has reached an important milestone with the appointment of a lead architect, and new concept images have been released showing what the finished venue could look like.
The new centre will include 12 multi-use indoor courts spread across two halls, allowing multiple sports and events to run at the same time. During the Olympic Games, the venue is expected to hold up to 10,000 spectators, making it one of the largest indoor sports facilities in South East Queensland.
Sports that could be hosted at the venue include:
Even after the Olympics, the facility is expected to be heavily used for local sport, competitions, concerts, school events, and community activities.

The project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments as part of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic infrastructure program. Construction is expected to take place between 2026 and 2028, with the venue ready ahead of the 2032 Games.
The development will also include supporting facilities such as:
The project is expected to create jobs during construction and provide long-term economic and sporting benefits for the region.
While the venue will be used during the Olympics, the main goal is to create a long-term sports and events hub for the Moreton Bay region. With a large and growing population nearby, the centre is expected to help meet increasing demand for indoor sports facilities and attract major events to the area in the future.
Once completed, the Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre will become one of the region’s most important sporting and entertainment venues, helping to position Moreton Bay as a key destination for events leading into and beyond the 2032 Olympic Games.
